Prepare your project

Review development standards & design requirements

• Find details on siting, square footage, height limits, and other requirements in zoning  Code.

Prepare your project plans

• We recommend engaging an experienced architect / designer / contractor to develop your design and guide you through the development process.

Identify, apply, and receive prerequisite permits

• Prerequisites may include a demolition permit with Cultural Heritage Commission review, Hillside Development Permit, or a Public Works tree removal permit.

   2. Apply for Your Permits

First: Planning Approval

• Most cities required planing approval before moving to building and safety.

Submit a complete application (if applicable)

Next: Apply for a Building Permit

• Submit building  permit applications and blueprints.

• Receive your building permit after all plan check corrections and clearances have been made.

   3. Time to Break Ground!

It’s time to build your project! During construction, your contractor or owner-builder will call Building & Safety for regular inspections.
